WTERT-India is latest addition to the Global WTERT Council

The Earth Engineering Center (EEC) at Columbia University, the parent organization of WTERT has signed an MOU with the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) to form WTERT, India. NEERI, headquartered at Nagpur and with five other branches in Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai is one of the prime research institutes in India. It is a forerunner in research on solid waste management with dedicated researchers. Research conducted by NEERI in 2005 on MSWM in fifty nine Indian cities is one of the most comprehensive studies on this issue.

A chilly Chicago played host to the Municipal Solid Waste to Biofuels Summit this week, and the meeting attracted a diverse group of ambitious developers and would-be developers of waste-to-energy/biofuel projects. In the United States the waste-to-energy segment of the green sector remains largely at the demonstration phase. “We’re about a decade away from being project finance ready,” one attendee told G.E.R.

History Channel's "Inspector America" examines Waste-to-Energy at Hennepin County, MN

Waste-to-energy was spotlighted on television as the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC) in Minnesota was featured recently on the premier episode of the History Channel's newest show, Inspector America.  The one-hour show looks at America's infrastructure and the toll that time has taken on it.  Host Timothy Galarnyk, a safety inspector with more than 35 years of experience, sets out to explore the condition of infrastructure in cities throughout the U.S. – uncovering projects and structures that are deteriorating and finding examples that are working.

WTE in Cartoons

Toy Story 3 earned three British Association of Film andTelevision Arts (BAFTA) awards due in part to the success of the scene in which the animated characters get trapped in a waste-to-energy facility.
